Staggerweed (Stachys arvensis)

Grows most prolifically in the upper South and lower North Island.

A reasonably small annual weed. Appears to scramble

across the ground rather than grow upright. The flower heads are leafy, with whorls of tiny pink-purple flowers. Has hairy square stems.

Prefers loose, fertile soil. Can germinate at any time of the year, particularly in spring and autumn.
