Groundsel (Senecio vulgaris)

Widespread annual, able to complete its lifecycle very quickly.

 

Identification

A small upright annual between 20-40 cm tall. When mature it has green flower heads with a number of yellow florets. Many seeds are produced each attached
to a ‘fluffy’ pappus which are carried by wind.

 

Characteristics

Can germinate and flower at any time of the year and completes its lifecycle very quickly (seeding 5 to 6 weeks after germination). Generally it is easily controlled with herbicides.
